Show Temperature hits 15 below; problems arise Much of Cedar City and the surrounding area was affected ' by a power failure early T&rs-day T&rs-day morning. Califonia-Pacific Utilities Company, Southern Utah Division manager, J. P. Paris reported that the failure was attributed to extremely cold temperatures which caused caus-ed two parallel transmission lines to snap at approximately 2:50 a. m. Both lines lead from California-Pacific Utilities Company steam generating plant to the company's North Cedar Substation. Sub-station. The downed lines caused caus-ed a chain reaction of breaker operations throughout the company's com-pany's distribution system. In the process, two company breakers failed causing additional addit-ional interruptions affecting service to Summit, Enoch and Cedar Valley. Despite being hampered by temperatures of approximately minus 12 degrees, company crews worked desperately during dur-ing the night isolating the problem pro-blem area and attempting to restore service by alternate means. While most customers were affected for different periods of time, Paris reported that ser- vice to all customers in Cedar City was restored by ID a. m. , Thursday. |
