Show lots of Work' for young actress training at A.C.T. are ROMEO AND JULIET, STREET SCENE, ANATOL, CYMBELINE, PLOUGH AND THE STARS AND PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD. While at Foothill Junior College in 1970 and 1972 she played Ophelia in HAMLET and Peaseblossom in A MIDSUMMER MID-SUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. MARAT SADE, DARK OF THE MOON, STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, MY FAIR LADY and THE MUSIC MAN. Miss Bingham appeared in the INFORNO and in the KQED television production of THE ' UPRISING OF TWENTY THOUSAND. She is being seen in the Utah Shakespearean Festival as the queen in RICHARD II, as Julie in TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA, and as Jessica in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. This is her first experience in VIRGINIA BINGHAM By Bessie Dover Virginia Bingham would be noticed anywhere. She has lovely, expressive eyes with a bit of wistfulness about them and a sweet, soft voice. That is offstage. off-stage. Onstage, Virginia still has beautiful eyes, but her voice and her manner can take on a commanding tone which requires anyone watching to pay attention. This talented young actress, currently performing roles in this summer's Utah Shakespearean Festival, is from Mountain View, California, although she has resided for some time in San Francisco where she trained in drama with the American Conservatory Theatre. While there she was associated with Sabin Epstein who participated with the Utah Shakespearean Festival for three seasons as an actor and director. At A.C.T. Miss Bingham has played in three Geary Stage Productions: CYRANO DE BERGERAC, PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY and TAMING OF THE SHREW. Other plays she has appeared in during her summer repertory theatre and she finds it "lots of work." She admits that it is difficult to memorize three roles in less than a month. "But I work best under pressure," she said, "and I am always looking for something new." Virginia states that the Festival "has a very positive atmosphere." This is her first time in Utah and she "loves it." She has seen some of the scenic attractions in the area including Zion National Park and Cedar Breaks National Monument. She denies any skills as an outdoor person, but has been persuaded to "do a lot of hiking." She also expressed interest in playing volley ball when invited to join a team effort. Describing her first experience with snow she said, "I fell backwards back-wards into a snow bank as I had seen it done in the movies. Rahter than soft and downy it turned out to be hard and lum- py" Miss Bingham has been impressed im-pressed with the community involvement 'in the Festival and was pleased to hear of some of the plans for further community participation. She feels at home in Cedar City and appreciates the friendly atmosphere in Utah. |
