Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor, About two months ago I was introduced to some information concerning the proposed Kaiparowits Power Plant. I was left deeply concerned as to what will possibly happen to the Southern Utah area should final approval be given. Many people have made the comment to me that Southern Utah has needed a break such as Kaiparowits for a long time.. I suggest very strongly that it is time we as humans begin to reevaluate re-evaluate our needs. Are we willing to take the risk of sacrificing the years of nature's handiwork that exists in our area for the advantages and progress offered by this plant? I was born add to this the interesting coincidence that 1776 was the .very year that Father Dominguez and Escalante came -Ihrough our valley and we have the ingredients for a grand year of celebration and re-committment re-committment to the principles and efforts that made settlement here possible. Many line things are in planning by various groups and individuals. Announcements and a calendar of these events will soon be forthcoming. We encourage all citizens to become involved, in their own way, in re-establishing the principles and ideals upon which our country was founded. Yours for a great Bicentennial Year, Joseph Felix Michael Bawden Co-chairmen, Cedar City ARBC and raised in Parowan and now live in Salt Lake City; I live and breath the effects of progress daily and see the so-called advantages ad-vantages hovering over the Oquirrh Mountains. Take the time to drive to the city and see how much pollution continues to darken the sky and sicken the foliage while still meeting pollution control laws. Drive from Ogden to Nephi and see if the haze is content to stagnate in the Salt Lake and Provo Valleys. I suggest there are alternatives; alter-natives; that man can live on this planet without devouring its resources, destroying its beauty, and by doing so inevitably committing suicide. It is imperative that everyone make themselves aware of points both good a nd bad - only then can . a wise decision be made. In- I formation can be obtained by ' writing: Utah Environment ' Center, 610 Judge Bldg., 8 East Broadway, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Southern Utah is a vast wonderland won-derland of scenic wonders and natural beauty, let us pause and contemplate if we are willing to begin the cycle that could lead to its destruction.
