Noted lecturer to appear in Cedar City Dr. Carleton Smith, historian, economist, and an authority on the arts, will be the guest of members of the Escalante Knife and Fork Club when they meet Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Town and Country Restaurant. Dr. Smith has spent the past several years traveling to almost half of the nations around the globe, interviewing heads of state and chiefs of government. He also has met w ith tribal chiefs in New Guinea, East Iran, the Malaysian Highlands, in Sikkim, Bhutan, and the headwaters of the Amazon and Orinoco rivers, where some tribes have lived 25,000 years and have yet to see a white man. During his travels, he has noticed that primitive tribes have few of the critical problems besetting modern civilized society and thinks there is much we can learn from them. |
