Terry's only loss came on a 5 to 2 decision to Doug Mayer of Milford in the semi-finals. Freshman Clay Robinson at 119 pounds was not able to place in the tournament, however Clay did add to the Rams success with his great desire, dedication, and support for his team mates. Clay lost to Bret Frehner of Panguitch by a pin in what was a very close match tied at 6 to 6 when the pin occured. ' This coming wct-keiiu Beaver High School will host the State 1A Tournament. The Rams should do well taking eight wrestlers into the tournament, the most they have for many years. "I feel we have the personnel to do well at the state tournament," tour-nament," said Coach Jenson, "however North Summit, Monticello, North Sevier, and Wayne County will all have as many or more wrestlers going to the tournament as we do." Sessions will be held at 1 and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the State tournament. Good luck to the Rams in their bid for the State Title. At the unlimited weight Kay Lister placed second to Richard Everett of Piute. Kay, who gave up approximately 60 pounds to Everett showed great courage and determination battling until the fir. l round when he was pinned. Everett placed 4th in the state tourney last year. Tom, Dave, Craig, Lee, Paul, John, Ralph, and Kay will all advance to the state tournament. Unfortunately Robert James lost in a wrestle back for true second ! to Waters of Beaver and will not be eligible for the state tournament. Two Parowan wrestlers placed 3rd. One of the outstanding performances of the tournament was turned in by freshman Tony Moss at 132 pounds, Tony wrestling in a weight class dominated by seniors, lost only to Gary Riddle of Piute in a very close match, 4 to 1. Riddle placed 3rd in the state a year ago. Tony beat Scott Symond of Milford 4 to 2 and Roger Bradshaw of Beaver by a default. At 145 pounds Terry Her-mansen Her-mansen took 3rd place honors by defeating Steve Crosby of Panguitch by a pin. Terry also I' A ROWAN - The Parowan Rams wrestling team topped off a very successful region wrestling season by dominating the Region 8 1A wrestling tournament held in Delta this past weekend. The Rams dominated the first evening session on Friday scoring 92',a points and placing nine individual in-dividual wrestlers in the championship finals, then coasted to an impressive win. "I felt that this was a great team victory," stated Coach Dave Jenson of the victorious Rams. "We had great individual performances, but I think the outstanding point of our success was our team togetherness and singleness of purpose. No one wanted to let the others down," said Jenson. For the Rams and Coach Jenson this was their second Region title in a row. The Parowan fans were at Delta in full force to support their winning win-ning team and added to the spirit that the Ram wrestlers exhibited on the mat. Both students and adults cheered wildly for their wrestlers whether they won or lost, and they usually won. The Ram wrestlers scored 112 1 2 points in the meet to easily outdistance second place Beaver with 74 points. Third came Piute with 05 points, then Milford with 60' a, Panguitch with 31, and Kanab with 29 u points. In the tournament the Parowan wrestlers won 18 of the 27 matches they were involved in. Four Parowan wrestlers captured championship honors in the tournament. Junior Tom Benhard at. 98 pounds captured his title in a very exciting and hard fought match against Lance Jackson of Kanab. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the match, Tom gained a reversal to break a 9 to 9 tie and earn an 11 to 9 victory. Senior Dave Orton won an easy victory at 105 pounds pinning all of his opponents on his way to first place. Dave beat Dave Pullem of Milford in the finals. At 126 pounds Senior Craig White won 1st place honors in very convincing style pinning all opponents he faced. His toughest match came in the semi-finals agaiast Roger Hatch of Milford. Hatch placed 4th in the state meet last year. Craig won the match by a pin in the 3rd round. Ralph Green was the other Ram to capture 1st in the tournament. tour-nament. At 185 pounds Ralph, a senior, defeated Cullen Carter of Beaver 6 to 3 in the championship match to avenge an earlier loss to Carter and gain the cham pionship. Five Rams placed second in the tournament and, although they did not win championships, they wrestled extremely well and earned valuable points for the Rams team victory. Freshman Robert James turned in an exceptional ex-ceptional job at 1 12 pounds losing to John Stanton of Piute 4 to 3 in the finals. Robert has improved a great deal and has an outstanding out-standing future ahead of him. Junior Lee Oglesby wrestled a very fine match but lost to Roger i Fullmer of Piute in the 138 pound class. Lee has done an outstanding out-standing job for the Rams all season long and this tournament was no exception. Lee pinned Jim Haslum of Beaver in the semi-finals. At 155 pounds Paul Williamson placed second to Kirk Short of Milford. Paul wrestled well in the tournament beating Kenny Baker of Beaver 7 to 0 in the semi-finals. At 167 pounds John Bayles came up with a very impressive win over Kelly Bradshaw of Beaver in the semi-finals, then he lost to Kirk Fullmer of Piute. Unfortunately John reactivated an old knee injury on Friday and was not at full strength in the finals. KF.GION CHAMP.
