Show T-birds retain District Seven Lead The Thunderbirds of Southern Utah State College continue to lead District Seven with a 11-2 record while Grand Canyon is right behind sporting a 11-3 mark. Mesa (9-5) moves into third with Ft. Lewis (10-6) in fourth. Western New Mexico (8-5) slips a notch to fifth. Top games this week are Grand Canyon at Southern Cal College (Thursday), Southern Utah at Ft. Lewis (Friday), Regis at Mesa and Southern Southern Colorado at Western New Mexico (both Saturday). Monday night, Mesa travels to Durango to face Ft. Lewis. The District's individual leaders remain consistent with Greg Woodruff of Adams State at the top of the scoring list with a 20.4 average. Dave Nelson of Ft. Lewis is second with a 20.0 average while Steve Smith of New Mexico Highlands is third with a 19.9 mark. Dan Donahue from College of Santa Fe remains the rebounding leader with a 12.1 while Herman Phillips of Southern Colorado is second with a 11.5 average. Jeff Rhodes from Colorado Mines is the individual field goal shooter with a .682 percentage while Ric Burris of Ft. Lewis continues to top the free throw shooters with .915 mark, hitting 43 of 47 attempts for the season. Mesa's Robbie Chavez leads in assists with a 6.7 average. In team statistics, Southern Utah is first in team field goal percentage (.565), free throw percentage per-centage (.760), team offense (88.7), and scoring margin (14.8). Regis is the team defensive defen-sive leader with a 63.6 average while College of Santa Fe heads the rebound margin with a 22 rebound per game advantage over its opponents Player -Player-of the-Week Southern Colorado's Herman Phillips, 6-6 junior .center, San Francisco, California: scored 52 points, pulled down 35 rebor.nds, and was credited with 10 assists in three games last week. Hit 18 and had 15 rebounds in a 75-67 win over District leader Southern Uah, goin 8-14 from the floor and 2-3 from the free throw strips and 18 points and 8 rebounds in a 86-55 victory against Western State.
