Show Uinta Unit Bill helps Ute Tribe The U. S. Senate last week passed the bill sponsored by Senator Jake Gam (R-Ut) and Senator Frank Moss (D-Ut) to authorize appropriations for the construction of the Uintah Unit of the Central Utah Project The Uintah Unit is especially important to the Indians of the Ute Tribe, who will receive eighty percent of the water to be made available by the storage , facilities to supplement presently irrigated Indian lands. The bill, authored by Senator Gam and introduced in May, authorizes $90,247,000 "Plus or minus such amounts as may be required by reason of changes in construction costs" for the construction of the Uintah Unit A spokesman in Senator Gam's office said Uintah Unit authorization is also contained in an omnibus bill being considered by the House of Representatives. He said that all but two of the House bill provisions have been approved by the Senate and that, while there are differences which might require a conference between the two houses, it is virtually certain that there will be a bill before the end of the session. |
