Show Orrin Hatch opposes Federal Control Orrin Hatch, Utah Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, challenged the Federal Government's ownership of more than 70 percent of Utah's land. Mr. Hatch called the federal control of Utah's land "unjustified and oppressive." "The Federal Government dictates both the use of the land and the development of the natural resources contained within the land to the disadvantage disad-vantage of the people of Utah," said Hatch. Mr. Hatch went on to cite the recent decision of the United States Supreme Court which gave the mineral rights of the Great Salt Lake to the people of Utah. "This decision was the result of the work of the Attorney General's office in spite of the recommendation of Senator Moss to drop the suit and try to buy the land from the Federal Government," said Hatch. "The people of the State of Utah need ; to have a Senator who will fight the Federal Government and its bureaucracy - ' |
