Show LEAF discuss property tax reform Proposals for reform of the property tax will be discussed at the August meeting of LEAF (Land Equality and Freedom) it was announced by Harry Perry, chairman of the Cedar City steering committee for LEAF. The meeting will be a no-host luncheon at the Sugar Loaf Cafe at noon, Saturday, August 21. The public is invited. The steering committee has proposed action by the State Legislature to initiate constitutional con-stitutional amendments that will phase out the property tax as it falls on buildings, improvements and personal property so that in 7 or 8 years the property tax in the State will only be on land values. Also considered will be proposals for local action that will improve the property tax to the greatest extent possible in advance of contitutional amendment changes. A report on the National Conference of LEAF held at San Francisco in early July will be made by Earl Hanson, secretary for the steering committee. |
