Mayor Gurr Honored uovenior Scott Matheson was the honored guest at the Pioneer Day celebration. Also, last year the swimming pool-park bond election was passed and initial groundwork has been done on a new baseball park. Some work has also been done for canyon water line improvements. The rapid growth of Parowan's residnetial districts has called for much planning for the future. The open house was under the direction of Mayor Jim Robinson, with Rose Page as chairperson, with awards being provided by the Chamber of Commerce. ministration and civic clubs banded together to keep the county seat. In 1974 a runway run-way extension and tie down area was constructed at the airport and a new fire station constructed, as well as the million-gallon water storage tank. In 1975 the Thunder Ridge Boy Scout Area was completed and dedicated with Governor Rampton attending the ceremony. 1976 was a banner year for Parowan as President Kimball attended the Pioneer Day celebration and the Utah Symphony played a concert here. In 1977, PAROWAN - Retiring Mayor Kendall O. Gurr and councilman Gale Stolk were honored at an open house Friday evening in the Parowan Library Lounge. Chamber of Commerce President, Garn Page, presented Mayor Gurr with a plaque and a gavel in recognition of his eight years of service to Parowan City. Stolk was also given a plaque for his four years of dedicated service. James Benson was unable to attend the open house but was also given a plaque and a thank you for his eight years of service on the city council. Postmaster Doug Vincent read an account of some of the many accomplishments of the city and city officials during the past administration. ad-ministration. Mentioned were the addition of the south interchange in 1970, the new well drilled in 1971 and the airport runway that was oiled and improved. In 1972 Parowair was developed and the airport lease arranged, center street was improved with the addition of curb and gutter.
