Show SIS DnstiMioEial council meette The Southern Utah State College Institutional Council heard reports at its March 23 meeting on the campus housing hous-ing study, recruitment, married mar-ried student housing, and the recommended work program for college budgetary outlay. The housing study was conducted con-ducted fall quarter to assess the physical condition of each dormitory and to establish a priority listing for repairs and renovation. A complete listing list-ing of existing needs has been compiled, along with student comments to assist in the evaluation and implementation implementa-tion of remedial measures. Rex Michie, housing coordinator, co-ordinator, reported to the Council that many of the recommendations re-commendations for improvements improve-ments have already been carried car-ried out Frain Pearson, chairman of the SUSC Recruitment Com- j mittec, reported on progress cf recruiting efforts this year. A total of 681 Information packets have been sent to high schools and junior colleges col-leges In Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Nev-ada, and California. Ninety-one Ninety-one LDS mission presidents throughout the world have been sent materials to help orient recently released missionaries mis-sionaries to SUSC programs. Much of the high school recruitment re-cruitment has been channeled through LDS seminaries. Attempts are being made to coordinate the publishing of a recruitment brochure through each school in the college. Faculty members have been encouraged to write to prospective pro-spective students with specialized special-ized information. Each department has been asked to submit to Jim Robinson, Rob-inson, director of Public Relations Rela-tions at SUSC, a list of occupa-tions occupa-tions a graduate of that department de-partment would be qualified to fill following graduation. This Information will be furnished fur-nished to prospective students. Alumni will be sent recruitment recruit-ment packets and requested to assist in the recruiting program. On March 10, SUSC students stu-dents began participating in a recruitment contest which will provide activity awards for two winners. A total of 703 recruitment packets were picked pick-ed up by interested students. Recruitment materials have been placed In all Cedar City motcU and at the Brian Head Ski Resort It was aLio reported by Dr. Robert Jones of the SUSC School of Science that 55 lectures have been presented throughout Utah and in adjacent ad-jacent states during the past two quarters by SUSC visiting visit-ing scientists. Rex Michie reported on in vestigation carried out by the housing department relating to the possibility of employing employ-ing modular housing construction construc-tion for the proposed new married student h ousing. Monies available for the housing have not been adequate ade-quate to cover low bids submitted sub-mitted for construction. Vice President Southwick discussed procedures used to correlate the work program for college expenditures with the proposals and guidelines advocated by the State Board of Higher Education. LaVeve Wnecten, Dr. Robert Moss, and Dr. Brent Palmer were approved by the Council Coun-cil for advancement to the rank of associate professor. Gary Mclntyre and Bonnie Bishop will be advanced to assistant professor. Leaves of absence without pay were approved for Bruce Knowlton, instructor in French and Georgia Beth Smith, acting act-ing dean of students. The leaves will be dependent upon availability of suitable replacements, re-placements, Mr. K n o wlton will do graduate study for a year at Stanford University. Miss Smith will accept an International In-ternational Farm Y'outh Exchange Ex-change Alumni Fellowship in Washington, D. C for 18 months of graduate study and public relations experience. |
