Show Football for little folks formulate plans The Cedar City Recreation Department, with the cooperation coopera-tion of the Iron County School District and interested citizens, citi-zens, will sponsor a Little League Lea-gue Footlball program this year. The program will supplement supple-ment existing programs in the school district for older boys. In a survey conducted last spring, 80 parents expressed interest in having their sons involved in a safe, sound football foot-ball program. A survey of other little league footJball programs throughout the state was taken and the best part of each program has been incorporated in-corporated into the proposed Cedar City Little League program. pro-gram. Harold Shirley, recreation director, indicated that several mothers were concerned about possible injuries. "But in checking programs in other cities, it was found that the injury rate was low in football foot-ball as in basebaM or basketball," basket-ball," Shirley stated. Starting a football program for Cedar City will require $9,000 over a three year period for equipment and insurance. A $15 fee will be assessed to help defray expenses. An organization meeting for parents and interested citizens citi-zens will be held Saturday, July 29 at the Cedar High School after the District Championship Little League baseball game. The meeting is slated for 8:15 p.m. Actual registration for football foot-ball will be conducted August 4 from 8 to 4 at the Cedar City Municipal Swimming ' pool. Following registration participants partici-pants will undergo several weeks of conditioning before any equipment is issued or any contact made. Sportsmanship Sportsman-ship 'will be stressed along with fundamentals. All interested are invited to attend the meeting July 29. |
