Show Basketball players to be honored at Friday banquet Five basketball players from Region Eight will be honored this evening at an awards banquet staged by the College Col-lege of Southern Utah Quarterback Quar-terback Club and radio station KSUB. The banquet honoring the all-region team will be held at the Sugar Loaf Cafe at 7:30 p. m. Featured speaker of the evening ev-ening will be Mack Wilkey, coach of the Class B Championship Champ-ionship team for 1969 from North Sanpete. Presentation of the trophies will be made by Paul Beck and Bruce Bradley of the CSU Thunderbird squad. Members of the all-region team were selected by balloting ballot-ing of the coaches within the region and a 12-man team wa's-named qwing to closeness in the balloting it was indicated. indicat-ed. The 12 players to be honored honor-ed include: Eric Marchant and Wayne Esplin, Cedar City. Doug Bailey, Delta. Gary Crosby, Kanab. Richard George, Millard. Robbie Topham, Parowan. Stan Blake and Brent Atkin, Dixie. Ken Holm and Jan Mem-mott, Mem-mott, Milford. Ken Gubler, Hurricane. Billy Carter, Beaver. , In addition to the 12 members mem-bers of the all-star team a "Coach of the Year" and a "Player of the Year," will be named. Recipients of these two awards will remain a secret until the evening of the banquet. However, the candidates for "Player of the Year" have been' narrowed to three including Esplin of Cedar City, Bailey of Delta and Gubler of Hurricane. |
