Show Residents, visitors gather to enjoy July 4 activities With large numbers of home and out-of-town visitors on on hand, the observance of the nation's birthday, on July 5, went over in a very fine manner, man-ner, and all attenders enjoy-ed enjoy-ed the day from early in the morning to late evening. The day began with the Salute, Sa-lute, furnished by Bill Rollins. Rol-lins. A breakfast sponsored by the First Ward, held early in the day on the park lawn, was patronized by many people peo-ple from the community and visitors. Next on the agenda was the parade, which featured several sever-al beautiful floats and marching march-ing groups. The float entered by the American Legion was given first place prize of $25; the Parowan Mercantile float, won second prize of $15 and the Second Ward took third prize money, $10. Winning the young people's division and a prize of $5 was Mitch Pendleton. Pen-dleton. Second place went to Kelly Orton with a $3 prize, and third prize of $2 went to Terry Orton. Pendleton is the son of Kent and Marilyn Pendleton, Pen-dleton, the Orton boys are the sons and Reed and Aleen Orton. A program of sports then entertained the large crowd of young people which had gathered to participate, with the action reaching up into the teenage group. Many people were on hand for the public meeting which was set to follow the sports, also on the park, but no one appeared to present it, so they dispersed after enjoying a nice visit. The Red Hill Wranglers entertained en-tertained a large crowd of people from the surrounding area at the race track in the afternoon with a fine card of racing and rodeo activities.. The final event for all of the citizens was the fireworks display at the race track infield in-field in the evening, and all were highly enthusiasms in their praise for the fine show. tThis event was sponsored by the Parowan Volunteer Fire Department with the help of other businesses, civic organizations organi-zations and citizens. The finale of the day long celebration was a dance put on by the Rammettes, on the tennis courts west of the high school. |
