Ironically it was Iron County Coun-ty Lumber who defeated Max's Camera Shop in the opening round of play forcing them to come back and win the tournament tour-nament the hard way. Thursday night Iron County Lumber entered the final series ser-ies of play undefeated while Max's still had a loss to their credit. Max's came up with a 4-2 victory forcing the final championship game. In that battle Max's came from behind to win 9-8 In an extra Inning to pick up the championship. At the conclusion of the tournament play involving eight teams 32-man tournament tourna-ment team and a Most Valuable Valu-able Player wcre named. Tern Cardon, iplaying for Iron County Lumber was selec. ted as the Most Valuable Player. Cardon was a strong hitter in the tournament and turned in a top defensive effort ef-fort in center field. Cardon belted a home run to drive in the winning run for Iron County Lumber to put them in the Championship game. In semifinal action In the tournament Ron's Sporting Goods defeated Enterprise Coop Co-op 10 to 5 to eliminate the Enterprise crew from the competition. com-petition. In a double header Ron's then had to play Max's Camera and Max's crew came up with a 6-5 victory to move into the dhamipionsh'ip against Iron County Lumlber. Dick Reed was on the mound for the first win over Iron County Lumlber. George Nakken went to the mound for the final victory. Nakken injured his arm sliding into third Itaase 'in the fifth inning and the following day found that he had chipped a Iborie in his arm and it was put in a cast. The tournament was under the direction of the Softball Association of Cedar City and directed by the organization's president, Art Pryor. The tournament concluded a successful season for the Association in whltih 14 teams participated 'in regular league play. Randall iFarms won the Je'ague championship with a best two of three games series against Enterprise Coop. The two Enterprise clubs each won their division' titles in league action. |
