Show Moss asks for hearings in Draft reform I I am concerned that the Congress Con-gress show good faith to those many young people who have pointed out the shortcomings of the present draft system, but who have not taken their grie-vances grie-vances to the streets. "Many Senators, myself among them, have objected to the antidemocratic tactics of some protestors, but now it is our turn to demonstrate that our governmental processes will work," the Senator wrote. He then suggested that if the press of business is too great on the committee this session, that, "perhaps you could recommend that the Senate establish a special committee to deal solely with the draft. Such a special committee com-mittee would terminate upon : the reporting of legislation to the floor," he said. Senator Frank E. Moss, D-1 Utah, has asked Senator John ' Stennis, Chairman of the Arm;d Services Committee to hold hearings this year on draft reform. Recognizing the busy schedule sche-dule of the Armed Services Committee, Senator Moss also asked consideration be given to the formation of a special committee of Senators to act only on draft reform. In a letter to Slennis, Moss' said, "The inequities and tho uncertainties of tho present system are too great for Congress Con-gress to wait until the Selective Selec-tive Service Act expires in 1971 1 before acting. "Many joople, young and! old, believe that it is past time for a complete overhaul of the draft system." The Senator pointed out that no formal bill has been introduced intro-duced which contains the rec-commendations rec-commendations of the Nixon Administration, but another bill, wider in scope, which Senator Sen-ator Moss is co -sponsoring, is ready for action.
