Residents support Shakespearean Festival with pre-play activities Some 90 Cedar City residents are putting special talents to use in pre-play activities held each evening in connection with the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Comprising orchestral, madrigal, mad-rigal, dancing, vonding, puppetry, pup-petry, and instrumental groups, the local participants range from junior high school age to mature adults. With the exception of the Punch and Judy show, which is new to the Festival this year, all of the groups are veteran components of the USF. Mrs. Barbara Adams, wife of Fred C. Adams, founding producer pro-ducer of the Festival, was the instigator of the pre-play music. mus-ic. She has trained the orchestral orchest-ral groups since the inception of the Festival in 1962 and per-forms per-forms each year as one of the madrigal singers. Three different orchestras perform on successive evenings. even-ings. Members are Mrs. Adams, Ad-ams, Debra Ashdown, Gladys Isom, Janet Jolley, Mary Ellen El-len Schmutz, Joy Pratt, Mary Smart, ferri Payne, Dixie Mor-rell, Mor-rell, Karon Morris, Jan Payne, Sliarla Fiack, Janice Urie, Karla Adams, Susan Leigh Chris Cowan, Kathy Cowan, Kathy Higbee, Joanna Brown, Naida Gardner, Sidney Hahne, Patty Lynch, Patty Holt, Mark Brown, and Ena Heap, all from Cedar City, and Bonnie Jensen, Roma Jensen, Terry Lee Jensen, and Chrys Potter, Parowan. Madrigals include Mrs. Adams, Ad-ams, Mrs. Isom, Mrs. Gardner, Mrs. Olson, Norman Lister, Peggy Minster, Chris Dot.son, and Pete Nelson. Dancing was for many years unckr the direction of Mrs. LaVeve Whetten, instructor in dance and physical education at SUSC. Mrs. Kara Lynn Farr is currently supervising the dance activities. Her dancers are Rayma Anker, Gay.e Stuck-i, Stuck-i, Kathy Chidester, Debra De-Mille, De-Mille, LuAnn Smith, Ruth Cox, Jane Luke, Dena Brown. Concessions are planned and supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Anker. These include in-clude program and refreshment refresh-ment sales. This year flowers are also available to Festival patrons. Those assisting as vendors are RoseAnn Felix, Cristal Chamberlain, Sarah Nelson, Leslie Gardner, Susan Murray, Lena Neptune, Jennie Zumr, Jill Anker, Marie Bun- nell, Paula Clark, Marilyn Stucki, Mamie Eck, and Jena Mitchell. Also assisting is Mike Anker. Patti Lyman, who has served the Festival as a singing horc-hound horc-hound vendor for six years, is also this season responsible for the Punch and Judy show. Participants are Jay Wilck.en, Dcnise Terry, and Sandy Amend. Am-end. The opening fanfare each evening is provided by Scott ; Potter, Bryan Terry, Brad 1 Schmutz, Brent Boyter, Lance j Whetten, Harold Hendrickson, I and Steven Knell. Mr. Potter composed the original compositions compo-sitions used. Background music for "Love's Labour's Lost" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is provided by Bruce Jones, Jose Luis, and Gary Jensen. Mr. Luis composed special music for the guitar for the latter production.. Mrs. Ruth Challis has served as official Festival hostess since the first season. Assisting her are Joy Challis, Clara j Wheelwright, Gen Gardner, S Mary Ann Bentley, Jerry! Gooding, Candace Ewing, Ar-1 ta Brough, Mary Lunt, Trisha j Arnold, Pam Arnold, Leah Bunker, Sandy Christensen, Kay Broadbent, Margery Twitchell, Barbara Ronnow, Leith Howard, Loni Twitchell, and Andrea Shirts. |
