Show Legislative Council appoints study committee The Utah Legislative Council Coun-cil met at the Southern Utah State College her Friday, and took action that may result in legislation to control teacher negotiations, by the appointment appoint-ment of a special committee to study teacher negotiation practices, and perhaps with a view toward writing a bill for the next Legislature's consideration. .-Warned to the committee were Reps. Moroni Jensen, D-Salt D-Salt Lake; and Jesse Peacock, R-Orangeville, of the State House of Representatives; Sen. Miles Ferry, R-Corinne, of the State Senate; Dean Rose, Daryl McCarty and Maxine Evans, Utah Education Association; Assoc-iation; Kenneth Woolsten-hulme Woolsten-hulme and Darold Long, Utah School Boards Association; Orson Peterson and M. Lynn Bennion, Society of Superintendent, Superin-tendent, and Dr. T. H. Bell, state superintendent of public instruction. The council recommended appointment of another state senator to the committee, in addition to an attorney familiar famil-iar with negotiation laws. Rep. Lorin N. Pace, R-Salt Lake, council chairman, stated that non-voting members of the committee will be Lavor K. Chaffin, Deseret News education ed-ucation editor; Mrs. R. E. Bjoklun, PTA legislative representative, re-presentative, and Mrs. William Cockayne, Women's Legislative Legisla-tive Council. The council also authorized the appointment of committees commit-tees to study the simplification of the state's income tax reporting re-porting system, and to study whether changes are needed in Utah's justice of the peace system. Also authorized was study of Utah's Criminal Code by a 16-member committee representing repre-senting a number of state agencies. It was also reported that the council will closely follow implementation of the new state liquor laws. j |
