Show ' ill NEW PAROWAN STAKE PRESIDENCY. These men were sustained as the presidency of Parowan Stake at the general session of conference Sunday morning. From left to right, they are: Newel F. Petersen presides at Parowan Stake reorganization With Elder Mark E. Peterson Peter-son of the council of Twelve apostles of the Church of Je sus Christ of Latter-day Saints presiding and perhaps the largest lar-gest number of stake members in attendance ever, Parowan stake was given a new stake presidency at the general session ses-sion of quarterly confence on Sunday morning, May 27. Elder Peterson, in his presiding pre-siding capacity, called upon years of service, President Petersen, told those present that the average tenure of stake presidents in the LDS Church today Is .between seven sev-en and eight years. Those present heard briefly from the retiring members of the presidency, as well as from the new members. Also present and speaking briefly was Elder Wilford Kintin, reg-Twelve. the stake membership in attendance, at-tendance, to release President Howard D. Knight, with a vote of thanks, after serving as stake leader for almost 17 years, along with President Lyle O. Halterman, as first counselor and President Newel New-el F. Wasden, as second counselor, coun-selor, with a vote of thanks for their services.. Elder Petersen men proposed that the stake sustain, J. Phillip Phil-lip Hanks, as the new president, presi-dent, with Newel F. Wasden as first counselor, and Richard Nelson as second counselor. The vote was unanimous in each case. President Hanks, is an instructor in the LDS Institute of Religion connected , with the Southern Utah State College in Cedar City, and a member of Parowan First Ward.. President Wasden, local lo-cal insurance agent, served as second counselor in the former for-mer stake presidency for several sev-eral years, and is a member of Parowan Third Ward. President Presi-dent Nelson, a member of the high council for the past year or so, Is a member of the Enoch Ward, and a former member and secretary of the stake quorum of Seventy. Elder Peterson also called on the stake "to release the following , officials in the reorganization re-organization program: Boyd Robinson as stake executive secretary; Warren A. Dalton, J. Phillip Hanks and Richard Nelson as members of the stake high council Also sustained as new members mem-bers of the stake organization were the following: James L. Benson, Richard W. Dotson, and Carlisle Hulet as members mem-bers of the stake high council, coun-cil, G. Boyd Robinson as an alternate member of the high council, and E, Devon Deppc, as stake executive secretary. The proceedings of the conference con-ference were piped into the cultural hall of the Third Ward chapel where they were also shown on television.. Present Pres-ent in the church were 940 members of the stake reports stake clerk, Boyd L. Mitchell. Added to this the 125 young people attending unior Sunday School, the attendance was an oficial 1065, which he adds is slightly over 50',c of the stake membership. In releasing president How-, ard D.
