Blair Max-field Max-field and Larry Stewart. As an amateur geologist, Mr. Tonge was very enthusiastic albout the terrain and the opportunities op-portunities found in this area for geologic study, i i John Tonge, vice president of Monash Teachers College in Victoria, Australia, and Mrs. Tonge, were special guests of educators at Southern Utah State College and the Iron County School District recently. recent-ly. Mr. Tonge had specifically requested a Cedar City stop on his tour of educational facilities fa-cilities in the United States. He. told school administrators in the community that the reputation re-putation of the educational system in this area is widespread wide-spread and very positive. He stated that colleagues had advised ad-vised him to observe the local system for .programs and qualities qual-ities he wished to implement into his own program. Mr. Tonge had an opportunity opportun-ity to visit a number of SUSC departments and observed teaching practices in Cedar City schools on the elementary elemen-tary and secondary levels. In a review of his visit with Dr. Morris A. Shirts, dean of the SUSC School of Education, Mr. Tonge stated that the educa-tional educa-tional practices here are the best he has observed in this country. |
