Show School Board approves 3 percent pay raise for teachers in district Teachers salaries for the Iron County School district were negotiated Monday night at a special meeting of the Board or niuucauon and accepted ac-cepted Tuesday by the negotiation negoti-ation committee of the Iron County Education Association. Superintendent Clair Morris Indicated that the board had approved a straight three per- cent salary Increase for teachers teach-ers for the 1970-71 school year. That increase, plus regular increments in-crements will bring the total Increase to approximately 5.23 percent, ho indicated. The board also allowed a requested calendar change, requested by the ICEA- The change allows for an Easter vacation in place of the annual an-nual spring vacation normally held in the district. The change would provide an Easter vacation on the Friday proceeding Easter and the Monday following. Under terms of the agree-ments agree-ments teachers with bachelor's degrees will range from a beginning be-ginning saiary ox 5o,U05 to a high of $8,287 with nine years of exeprience. A teacher holding hold-ing a master's degree will be-bin be-bin at $6,485 and range to a high of $9,608 with 13 years of experience. In addition to the increase Morris pointed out that application ap-plication has been made for additional teacher leadership leader-ship money appropriated by the state legislature. If granted grant-ed it would give 16 teachers an additional eight percent increase,, he noted, The; "increase in pay will range from a high of $533 to a low of $242 for those holding hold-ing bachelor's degrees and from $556 to $370 for those with master's degrees. Superintendent Morris indicated in-dicated that the negotiations were handled very smoothly this year and that difficulty resulted in reaching an agreement agree-ment between the board and the teacher' organization. One of the reasons for the delay in final approval, he indicated, was that final approval ap-proval was delayed until all factors relative to the current fiscal year had been completed complet-ed to give the district a clear- er picture of monies that would and could be used for increases and for other planned plan-ned program for the upcoming upcom-ing fiscal and school year. Contracts are based, he indicated, in-dicated, on 185 working days. |
