In view of this very high turnover rate, it has become necessary to do something. Roy Parris will be the Project Pro-ject Instructor. The first class will train approximately 16, part of which will be new to the business and part upgrading upgrad-ing of current employees. The first Cedar City class will begin August 1 and run for 10 weeks. The students in the program receive O.J.T. instruction at the station and class instruction at a selected classroom here in Cedar City. Dealers in the Cedar City area who are interested in the O.J.T. program are urged to call the Cedar City Employment Employ-ment Office. Cedar City has been selected by the American Service Station Sta-tion Association, Inc. as one of the cities in Utah to receive training for service station employees under a government govern-ment contract awarded to the American Service Station Association. As-sociation. J. David Anderson, Ass't. Project Director for the On-The-Job Training program, was in Cedar City this week for the purpose of securing dealers who desire to participate partici-pate in the training program. Mr. Anderson said, "There Is ample justification for this program. The turnover rate among service station employees em-ployees in Utah exceeds 80 percent per year. On a national na-tional basis 200,000 service stations employ 600,000 employees. em-ployees. More than half of these join the ranks of the unemployed un-employed annually." Anderson Ander-son added, "The high rate of employee turnover contributes materially to the high mortality mortal-ity rate among service station dealers who find it increasingly increasing-ly difficult to continue in business busi-ness without adequately trained train-ed help." To relate these figures to Cedar City, it is estimated that the 25 service station dealers employ some 75 employees. Of these, more than 35 join the ranks of the |
