Show Lockhart Outlasts Record Crew For Tourney Victory Lockhart of the Cedar Amer-lean Amer-lean Legion Baseball program won their way into the championship cham-pionship of the Annual Invitation In-vitation tournament Tuesday night with an 8 to 3 victory over Iron County Record. The Lockhart crew will meet the winner of the Cedar Crest vs. Ron's Sporting Goods contest con-test held Wednesday night, for which a report was not available at press time. Both Lockhart and Record won opening round victories by default when St. George and Hurricane failed to show in the invitational event. Wayne Esplin took the mound victory, scattering fivei hits over the seven innnings of play. Lockhart scored first, pushing in two runs in the ' second inning on a two run homer by Glade Heyborne, then added two more in the third and a pair in the fourth to take a 6 to 0 lead. Record pushed in three runs on two hits in the fifth frame, but Lockhart came back with two more in the bottom of the frame to serve as insurance runs. Lockhart belted six hits in the contest. Extra base hits included Heyborne's home run for Lockhart and two doubles, by Fred Adam and Dale Hatch, for the Record. Esplin collected 13 strikeouts en route to the mound victory. Dale Hatch, starter for the Record, suffered the loss and he had relief by Bruce Black- nrr Championship game of the annual tournament will be held Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p. m. At the conclusion of the tournament a team championship trophy will be presented and an outstanding tournament player will be named. |
