Show National League Crown Goes To Arctic Circle Arctic Circle posted a pair of victories during the past week to walk off with a perfect eight win one loss record to capture the second half championship in the National Little League baseball race. Arctic Circle posted a 8 to 1 win over their closest rival Elks early in the week then staged a come from behind 7 to 6 victory over Jaycees Tuesday Tues-day night to compile the perfect per-fect mark. Tha Elks took first half honors hon-ors leaving the two teams in a deadlock for the league championship. Against Elks Arctic Circle put the game away all in one inning. They belted four hits in the second inning and pushed push-ed in all eight of their runs. Nolan Roberts of Arctic Circle threw a no hitter but allowed one run to score. Kevin Cox gave up six hits in the fracas. Tuesday Jaycees had the Arctic Circle on the ropes with a 6 to 4 lead going into the bottom of the final inning of play the Arctic Circle crew came up with three big runs to pick up the victory. Jay-cees Jay-cees pushed in four runs in the first frame and Arctic Circle Cir-cle came back to tie It at 4 all going into the final inning. in-ning. Jaycees came back with two in the top of the sixth and Arctic Circle pushed in the winning runs in their final trip to the plate. Jeff Bulloch picked up the mound victory. Mike Hair suffered the loss. Lions became the tamers during the week, picking up two victories and moving from the cellar into third place behind be-hind Elks in the final second half standings. Lions defeated defeat-ed Jaycees by a score of 9 to 7, coming from behind to win the victory. Tommy Torres and Robert Sherratt shared mound duties with Sherratt picking up the win. Robert Laird suffered the loss. Lions also defeated Jones Motor by an overwhelming score of 17 to 3 with Curtis Carter of Lions giving up just two hits in the contest. Jones Motor sent four pitchers to the mound. Lions took a quick and decisive lead with eight runs in the first inning of play. Jones Motor earlier in the week, behind the pitching of Dennis Bowler, defeated Jaycees Jay-cees by a score of 11 to 6. Robert Laird of Jaycees suffered suf-fered the loss on the mound with control problems giving up numerous walks. Laird aided his team's cause, however, how-ever, with a home run in the fifth frame. Only other game on this season's slate pitted Elks against Jones Motor Wednesday Wednes-day evening. |
