Ron's Sporting Goods Captures Invitational Baseball Honors i 2 to 1 nine inning battle with Enterprise in the tournament opener, then added a pair of doubles in the championship game Saturday night to set up his selection as the Most Valuable Player. In the championship battle, Ron's got into the scoring column col-umn first with one run in the second, then scored three tallies tal-lies in the third with only one hit. One run scored on a wild pitch and before the dust had settled two more tallies had come across on a wild nitch. Ron's Sporting Goods, after capturing the Cedar American Legion baseball league title, wound up Saturday evening with championship honors in the Second Annual Cedar City Invitational Baseball Tournament. Tourna-ment. Ron's defeated Lockhart of Cedar City by a score of 8 to 2 n Saturday night's championship champion-ship after downing Cedar Crest Lodge by a score of 7 to 3 in the semi-final round of play. Kent Peterson, third sacKer for Ron's Sporting Goods, was named the tournament's outstanding out-standing player, and he was awarded a trophy for his efforts, ef-forts, presented by Mayor Loren Lor-en Whetten. Peterson belted two of three hits for Ron's in their opening Lockhart got back into the contest with two runs in the fourth, but Ron's put it out Df reach in the sixth frame, "aking advantage ; of, , walks and one hit to push in another an-other three runs, then added the final tally on two hits in the seventh frame. Gary Gulliford went all the way on the mound for Ron's, allowing just five scattered hits. Two of those, however, were doubles to J. D. Webb of Lockhart, who belted in both of his team's runs. Kevin Hunter was Lockhart's starter, but gave way in the fourth frame to Wayne Esplin. In semi-final round play, Lockhart won their way into he championship game by defeating Iron County Record 3 to 3 with Wayne Esplin picking up the victory.
