Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Mr. Hollo, Editor Iron County Record DEAR SIR: May I relate a most delightful delight-ful experience, in which my fuin.ly and I had the privilege privi-lege of participation? A representative group from "BOY SCOUTS of JAPAN" arrived ar-rived on August lUth, to spend two nijjht in Escalante Center. Over 300 gentlemen made themselves at home here and treated us with their unexcel- The following letter to tin Editor was received from Ale Michael D. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. DeMoin Jones, who is serving with the military forces in Viet Nam. To The Editor: Are you doing your part for, America today ? You as Americans Amer-icans are fighting a battle just as important, if not more so, than the war taking place led good manners. There were the best ambassadors of good will and harmony we have ever encountered. The excel-lent excel-lent conduct and courtesy, which they portrayed, will never be forgotten by anyone who was fortunate enongh, to have enjoyed their association. associa-tion. In less than 48 hours, they offered a strong and Well developed lesson in culture which could benefit any of us. He have a personal desire for another opportunity to associate associ-ate with a group of "BOY SCOUTS OF JAPAN." , Sincerely, , ' , W. F. Lee, Manager Escalante Center ? it, or should I say that we don't appreciate what we have going for us? There are very few Americans Ameri-cans who know tile pains of hunj;ar, cold, etc., as many througout the world do. We all have our warm homes, flashy cars, television sets, and all , the other luxuries that make life pleasant. And we all take these things for grained (myself included.) over here in Viet Nam. And looking at the newspapers, T.V., and listening to the radio, ra-dio, in my opinion you are slowly out surely losing. In parts of our once free and great country, battles are taking tak-ing place that are just as savage sav-age and bloody as those being fought any where in the world today. I am refering (if you have not already guessed) to the rioting, protest marches, racial killings, etc., that are taking place in our own back yard. Anyone who is an American is the luckiest person in the world, and we don't even know Why, when we have all the opportunity to live a free and comfortable life, do we march against our own country and government? Why de we kill eacli other off as if wo were animals because we can't live and work alongside another American unless he is the same color. Isn't it enough that we are losing many American lives in fighting throughout the world? wor-ld? Why do we have to put up with hate and conflict among ourselves in our own country? We have a military strength that will equal and better any force in the world, yet inter nally, we are one of the weakest. weak-est. America's defeat won't come from an agivssive foreign for-eign power, but rather, from within her borders, by her own people. Before it is too late Amerl. ca, wake up to what is taking place, re-unite and thank God that you have the freedom other men fought and died for. They sacrificed their lives for us and our great country, and we have no right to take that from them. Lets keep A-merica A-merica great. Mike Jones Bien Hoa, Viet Nam |
