Show David Meyers Leads Cedar Redmen To 73-48 Victory Over Hurricane The Cedar High School Redmen started off the basketball league season with a bang Friday evening even-ing when they traveled to Hurricane Hurri-cane to hand the Tigers a 73 to 48 shellacking to put them at the head of the league standings along with Dixie. The Redmen Started slow but after the first quarter of play it developed into a no contest battle bat-tle with the final score the only question on the outcome. The Tigers threw up a zone defense de-fense against the Redmen, con- centrating their defense against the high scoring of Bruce Holmes and Scott Nelson, leaving the way clear for a tremendous performance per-formance by David Meyers, who threw in a total of 27 points to lead all scoring in the game. Meyers hit from everywhere. He scored from the line early, hit from outside on the sagging zone and when Hurricane pressed him he drove for scores. He pumped up nine from the field and hit nine of 12 attempts from the free throw line. Nelson muscled in 12 points, five buckets from the field and only two of six from the line. Nelson did control the boards and was an- instrumental factor in the victory. Robyn Reid came up with a 15 point output with some outside shooting, particularly particu-larly from the sideline on a give and go against the Tigers. Defensively it was one of the best efforts by the Redmen as they held Hurricane to 18 field-goals field-goals and forced the host club to take their shots from the outside. Gubler of the Tigers had the best effort for Tigers with 22 points. He was the only member of the Hurricane team to hit in the double figures. The clubs played on even terms through the first quarter of play with Redmen holding just a one point lead at 17 to 16. In the second quarter the Red-men Red-men pulled away to stay as they scored another 17 points while Hurricane was held to 9. The margin was increased throughout through-out the second half of play with the Redmen holding a 25 point margin at the end of the game.
