Show Jackson's Hopefuls to Invade Dixie I High school track and field team, coached by Glen Jackson, will show their wares at the first meet ot the season, the annual Dixie Invitational Saturday, Apr. 14 at St George. The detenmng state champions suffering from graduations and tor depth will be hard pressed lor points Saturday, but never-thless, never-thless, Coach Jackson Is expect-lag expect-lag good results from those who are participating this season. Only a few seasoned men remain re-main on the squad this year and a host of untried sophomore sopho-more hopefuls will make the trek to " the sunny climate of Utah's Dixie. As stated before Coach Jackson Jack-son is stronger in the 440 yard dash and Is expecting a good showing from his mile relay team. Kenneth Grlener is one of the few men on the squad that will enter In the sprints, the 100 and 220 yard dashes. Several sophomores will also enter, but Crlener, a senior will carry the number one hopes of coach Jackson. Jack-son. Several other men are working out. A couple In the distance races, Larry Lowder on the hurdles hur-dles to round out a fair but shallow squad in the track events. In the field the story is as Jackson puts it, "A tragedy." Until this week not a single fellow fel-low at the school was even working work-ing out or trying out for any of the field events. That includes the shot put, discus, Javelin, twoadjump, pole vault and high Jump. The possibilities of repeating last year's performance is unthinkable. un-thinkable. The local boys won't even win the division, but those -who are participating are work ing hard and as Individuals will muster some points. As a matter of fact a prediction '-an be made that Cedar will definitely be rep-resented rep-resented In the state this year and there may even be some state champions in the handful that turned out this season. |
