Show LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Editor Iron County Record Cedar City, Utah Gentlemen: I am writing this letter regarding regard-ing the boating and fishing problem prob-lem which seems to exist at Navajo Na-vajo lake in Kane county. Accord. !ng to the Kane County Commissioners Commis-sioners they have been asked by certain individuals to Impose a 10 mile an hour speed limit on the lake. As everyone knows, this would do away with all water wa-ter sports such as water skiing, aquaplaning, etc. I, personally, feel that Navajo Lake is one of the most beautiful beauti-ful lakes, situated in the most scenic national forest, In the notion. no-tion. It is ideal in every way for fishing, boating and recreation of many descriptions. It would certainly be a mistake to not 'develop this lake and keep It as one of our better fishing spots. I ON THE OTHER HAND, it would also be a grave mistake to impose a law that would p-e-vent all other uses of this beau-tiful beau-tiful lake except to fishing. Where else between Utah Lake at Provo and Lake Mead can n southern Utah taxpayer teach his children boating which is one of the fastest growing sports In America today? On the other hand, how many lakes, reservoirs reser-voirs and streams are available to the fisherman? If . 10 miles an hour speed limit is placed on Navajo Lake it will practically be the same as a law stating that no person can teach his chil-dren chil-dren , or himself, the art of water wa-ter sports within the 350 mile limits of Lake Mead and Utah Lake. Boating and water sports were enjoyed last summer by a good many residents of southern Utah, a poll has shown that they do not wish it to die. I do not believe it is at all necessary to eliminate either sport from this lake. Certainly arrangements can and should be worked out so that both sports can be enjoyed. After all, this is a public lake and should be enjoyed by everyone In the man. ner they wish to enjoy it as ling as the rights of others are not infringed upon. Proper regulation should permit this, made available to those who wish to enjoy water sports as well as fishing. Most of us like to enjoy both. I am looking forward to see ing that this problem is worked out to the satisfaction of tna majority with all rights consld. ered. With a little united effort and give and take by all of us . this can be accomplished. Sincerely yours, ELD EN J. YERGENSEIT |
