Show PARAGONAH NEWS NOTES I Mrs. Hilma Lamoreaux Mrs. Eliza Norton celebrated her 80th birthday on Oct. 8 and family dinner was arranged in her honor for all available family fami-ly members. Mrs. Norton has made her home here with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Topham, for some time and the Topham home was the scene of the gathering. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Norton, Maryvale; Mrs. LaVon McClary and her two daughters and their children child-ren of Las Vegas; Gale Stolk and daughter. Windy of Parowan. A beautifully decorated birthday birth-day cake was sent by another daughter, Mrs. Ruth Parker, of Flagstaff, Ariz. A movie camera was used to make a permanent record of the occasion which saw four generations genera-tions of the family together for the day. The following day Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hastings of Las Vegas arrived for a belated birthday visit Later in the week, a sister, Mrs. Susie Armstrong of Parowan, Paro-wan, came to spend the day. On Monday the 16th, a neph ew, Ray Slade, and his wife of Ogden came to pay the elderly lady a visit. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Topham took Irene's mother to Panguitch, her old home town, to spend the day visiting. The October D. U. P. meeting of the Betsy Topham Camp will be held on Thursday the 2Cth at the home of Mrs. Lula Bastian. The meeting will begin at 2:00 p. m. Gayle Lund, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Wilson Lund, celebrated celebrat-ed her birthday on Thursday by entertaining the girls of her class at a party at her home. A number num-ber of young ladies came from Parowan for the evening. Mrs. Clare Miller of Cedar City visited here at the Wilson Lund home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. James Maxwell of Glendale were in town one day last week to spend an after noon visiting with Mrs. Elizabeth Maxwell. Mrs. Malinda Jolley and Mrs. Emma Kell of Cedar City visited here Sunday. Mrs. Jolley is a sis-terd sis-terd of Mrs. Elizabeth Maxwell. Mr. and Mrs. Arvel Bean of Long Beach, Calif., arrived here Monday for an overnight visit at the Wilson Lund home. Mrs. Shirley White and child-ren child-ren of Summit were here Monday Mon-day for a visit with the II .Revere Robinsons. Warren Smith and Robin Lam-oreaux Lam-oreaux traveled to Las Vegas for the week end. They were accompanied by Reed Thornton and Ralph Mortensen of Parowan. Paro-wan. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Board-man Board-man and Mrs. Ruth Boardman of Paragonah and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boardman of Parowan traveled to Las Vegas Saturday to attend the wedding of Miss Betsy Ann Fretwell of Cedar City and Varlo R. Cahoon of Deseret. WillarJ Dalton was here from Salt Lake City last week to visit for a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Dalton and other family members. Mrs. Scott Robinson of Pan-1 guitch and Mrs. Scott Jensen of Cedar City were Friday visitors at the home of Mrs. Iras Jones. Mrs. Bertha S. Topham celebrated cele-brated her birthday Sunday and received many phone calls and greetings for the occasion. Before the day was over, her brother, Arnold Stevens and his wife and two daughters of Mt. Pleasant arrived to express their best wishes in person and to visit here over night. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jones and their family moved to Paragonah from Parowan last week end. They have established themselves themsel-ves at the Mabel Robinson home. Primary Inservice meeting was held Thursday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Lul.i Bastian. After the lesson material mater-ial was presented, refreshments were served by the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Edwards and family were over from Cedar City to spend Saturday with relatives re-latives here. Ellis Robinson observed his birthday anniversary Friday Oct. 13th and numerous relathes called call-ed to express good wishes. Mrs. Nettie Baldwin and son, Bernett of Cedar City were in town Thursday to visit with the Chester Robinsons and with Mr. and Mrs. Arch Lamoreaux and the Arvll Ashtons. A large number of Paragonah people traveled to Cedar City Saturday evening to attend the reception for newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Simklns. The bride's mother, Mrs. Bernlce Bullock, Bul-lock, is a former resident of Paragonah. A number of Paragonah ladles spent the day In Cedar City Saturday to attend the District D. U. P. convention. Included in the group were: Mrs. Bertha S. Topham, Mrs. Evelyn Davenport, Daven-port, Mrs. Lula Bastian, Mrs. Mary C. Williamson, Mrs. Hannah Han-nah Robinson, Mrs. Alice Robinson, Robin-son, Mrs. Ila Williamson and Miss Gladys Edwards. Miss Ed-1 wards remained In Cedar City for e few ('.ays' visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Bentley and family returned to Mt. Pleasant Plea-sant Sunday after visiting here. Hettie and the boys had been here for ten days and their stay was longer than planned because the baby became very ill with croup and was in the Iron County Hosptital for four days. He had made a satisfactory satisfac-tory recovery, however, and was well enough to be taken home. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Englestead and Mrs. Nellie Englestead, all of St. George, were over night visitors at the Gwen Jones home Friday of last week. Mr. a;id Mrs. Arch Lamoreaux and Mr. and Mrs. Arvll Ashton were here from Provo from Monday Mon-day to Friday to visit with the Chester Ribinsons. Orval Lamoreaux came from St. George Friday to visit until Sunday and on that day, his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lamoreaux, also of St. George, visited at the Robinson Rob-inson home. On Oct 7th, Bishop James IL Anderson and his son Lamar, traveled to Kanab to spend the day hunting with Jimmy Anderson Ander-son and to visit with the family there. Mrs. Ruby Bauer of Cedar City was here Saturday to spend the day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Robinson. Mitchell and Randy Robinson of Cedar City were here from Friday to Sunday to spend the week end with their grandparents, grandpar-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Robinson. Robin-son. Donald Burton was here from Logan to spend the week end with his wife and babies at the Errol Lamoreaux home. |
