Show Parowan Post Office Dedicated In October Ceremony A crowd of 350 gathered on the vacant area west of Parowan's new post office building Saturday Satur-day afternoon in bright October sunshine to participate in the program that was held to dedicate dedi-cate the building and to visit its facilities following the program, according to Postmaster Howard D. Knight. The ladles of the Trill Tri-ll Club were on hand to serve refreshments to those who toured the building following its dedication. dedi-cation. Frank Duncan, Salt Lake City, Postal Field Service Officer represented rep-resented the Tost Office Department Depart-ment at the dedication and the Parowan High School band with L. N. Asay conducting, was on hand to furnish appropriate music mu-sic for one-half hour preceding the actual dedication. Mr. Duncan officially dedicated dedicat-ed the building by presenting the U. S. Flag sent by Rep. M. Blaine Peterson, to Postmaster Howard D. Knight. Then Mr. Knight held the flag while Miss Metta Marie Mortensen gave the reading, "An Ode to the American Ameri-can Flag," This was followed by the flag raising ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 313 of the Parowan Third Ward with Tom Dobrusky, scoutmaster, presiJing. During this ceremony the band played the National Anthen. This was followed by talks by Mayor J. Howard Joseph and Mr. Duncan. Bishop C. Heber Gurr offered the invocation and Bishop Gordon Farnsworth gave the benediction. Postmasters from several of the neighboring communities at tended the dedication program. The new post office here, incidentally, inci-dentally, is part of a program of accelerated postal construction and modernization ordered by President Kennedy, to stimulate the nation's economy and to assist as-sist Postmaster-General J. Edward Ed-ward Day in his program to provide pro-vide the nation with the finest postal service in its history, Mr. Knight pointed out. This program of new post office of-fice starts, of which this office is a part, together with modernization moderniza-tion of existing postal facilities over the nation, is providing almost al-most $270 million in new construction con-struction for the country which started in the approximate 10-month 10-month period between Feb. 15 and Dec. 31. 1961. Included in the program will be more than 2,000 new post offices. |
