Show "Carmen" Scheduled By Opera Department One musical highlight of the school year at College of Southern South-ern Utah will be the much-loved opera "Carmen" which contains some of the world's most brilliant bril-liant music. General production director will be Dr. Blaine Johnson John-son and the CSU Symphony and Concert orchestra will again be under the baton of Prof. Roy L. Halversen. This grand opera, written by the French composer Bisct, is the story of the love affairs of the gypsy girl Carmen, one of the most tantalizing characters In all opera. According to Dr. Johnson, the music department chose this masterful and entertaining work because two wonderful student voices were prepared to sing the leading roles. Jose and Carmen roles will be sung by Cynthia Williams, Cedar City and David Williams, Minersvllle. Other cast members include Lois Macfarlane, Cedar City; Lowell Murdock, Washington, D. C; Chad Heaton, Kanab; Brenda Roxboro, North Carolina and Jane Fillmore, Beaver. Dancing groups will bo under the direction of Mrs. LeVevc Whetten. Costumes will bo designed de-signed and executed by Elise Randall, a student A chorus of young boys, ages 7 to 12, is being prepared by Dr. Johnson as well as the full chorus of college singers to meet the February 1 production date. |
