Show "Straight Ticket" Foe LETTER TO THE EDITOR Editor of Iron Co-inty Record: Election is over! Now what do we have? Well, come next January, Janu-ary, Cedar City will have a "full house" of Republicans at its head. This is an undesirable condition. con-dition. It wouldn't matter which party it was, it would be the rame. One of the great benefits of our two party system of government gov-ernment in the U. S. is the check and balance that the two parties are on each other. Both parties should be represented in all blanches of our government. Too many people are voting as their party tells them without tnought of what's best for our government. When your party tells you to vote "straight this" or "straight that," and you do it, you are sacrificing that precious right to think and act for yourself. your-self. You are only a tool of your party and are putting party success suc-cess ahead of good government. If enough of our people had been thinking for themselves and had good government in mind, we would have put in one or both of those fine Democratic candidates candi-dates for city councilmen. Either one, with his wide experience, would have been a pillar of strength in helping to solve the city problems. With only one party represented in the mayor and city council, they are more apt to run out of balance. We'd surely hate to have that condition condi-tion in our state and nation, wouldn't we? Why have it in our city? And now, my admiration and respect goes to our Citizens Committee for its unselfish studj and work on the electric powei issue. It takes courage, conviction convic-tion and determination to promote pro-mote ideas different to the popular popu-lar thought or trend, along certain cer-tain lines. I've read with deep interest, the articles printed in the Record now and then during the past two years by this committee, com-mittee, setting forth the information informa-tion and facts about electric power pow-er rates, etc., which it has gathered. gath-ered. Though they were defeated at the polls, they are not defeated. Competition is good for business. The Southern Utah Power Co has been giving good service, but it will be even more alert and efficient ef-ficient now and might even consider con-sider lowering power rates some day let's hope. The mayor and city council will, I am sure, give more time, study and consideration to measures mea-sures which vitally concern all city residents, as the power franchise fran-chise does. They should remember remem-ber always that they are but the servants of the people. It is men like the Citizens' Committee members that add strength and character to our way of life. They wake us up to the fact that there might be another an-other and more progressive way. A Non-partisan Voter. . |
