Show Man Hunt Starts For Cedar City Jail Escapees Police officers throughout the west are conducting a man hunt for two young men from California Califor-nia who escaped from the Cedar City jail Monday night, by cutting cut-ting two bars from the jail cell in which they were held. The men, John Ransom, 18, and James M. Mitchal, 20, both of Los Angeles, were being held on a car theft and robbery charge. FBI tfficers arrived in Cedar City Tuesday to return the men to Los Angeles, but found that they were about 12 hours too late. Local police officers announce that after breaking from the jail the two men escaped in a car stolen from I. E. Riddle, some time during the night. The men had been apprehend-ed apprehend-ed when they robbed two young hitch hikers and forced them from their car on Buckhorn Flat. The two boys, Garry Woodworth, 16, and Ron Pitney, 19, were from the midwest. They had been picked pick-ed up by the California pair near Las Vegas, and were tnen robbed rob-bed of their cash and belongings belong-ings before being left along tne highway north ot Paragonah. They cut one bar completely com-pletely out and bent another after af-ter cutting it through once, leaving leav-ing a large enough hole In the bars to crawl through. They escaped es-caped the jail at about 9:30 p. m. and obtained the Riddle car sometime between that time and 6 a. m. when the car was missed. |
