Show Bid Call Issued On City Electric Plant Parowan City is issuing a call for bids this week for the construction con-struction of necessary buildings to house the machinery for the new hydro-electric power plant at Paragonah, diversion structures struc-tures to divert the stream flow of the Paragonah canyon creek into the pipe line for the plant, and for a transmission line from the plant to points where the power will be placed in the already al-ready existing system. Some other oth-er minor items of construction are also included in the call for which bids will be opened at 5 p m. Aug. 17. Two stream diversion structures struc-tures are needed to put the creek waters into the pipe line, with five pipe line air valve assembles assem-bles to be installed in the line. Six miles of transmission lines will be needed to carry the power output of the plant to Third East Street in Parowan, and four miles of smaller lines for combined control and communication lines, in order for the plant to be coordinated with the operation opera-tion of the Parowan plant. The third phase of the bidding is for construction of a power plant building, the construction of a small pumping station and the placing of the water wheel, generator and other machinery in that building. Because of the nature of construction con-struction items called for in the bidding a meeting of the members mem-bers of the City Council with interested in-terested contractors has been called for 2 p. m. Aug. 10. At this meeting, which will be held in the courtroom of the Iron County Courthouse here, the city engineer, Thomas C. Adams, and city officials familiar with the various phases of the bids will be on hand to explain the specifications, speci-fications, and inform prospective prospect-ive contractors what materials the city will furnish and what will have to be furnished by the successful bidder. The last item of equipment, the water wheel for the plant, which is being made by Pelton Water Wheel Works of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, will be available by mid-September, mid-September, after which work can go ahead on placing the machinery ma-chinery and getting the plant ready for operation. Line construction con-struction can get under way as soon as bids are let; also the work on the diversion bulkheads. |
