Show Cedar City Indian Succumbs After Brief Illness Paul Jake, 54, popular local Indian In-dian who has been an active leader In affairs at the Indian Village for many years, died early ear-ly Sunday morning following a brief illness. Jake, who was well known by whites and Indians alike of the entire area, was born in St. George in 1900 a son of Annie Mokiac and T. Jake. He came to Cedar City in 1914 and had resided re-sided here since. In 1940 he married Mary Jake In Milford, who survives him. Also surviving are three stepsons and daughters, Bud Jake, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Cecelie Lambeth, and Mrs. Bessie Murphy, Cedar City, and several brothers and sisters. Members of the Piute tribe to which he belonged held a "sing" In his honor until midnight Sunday, Sun-day, and repeated the ancient tribal rites in an all-night "sing" Monday night. Formal funeral service were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the First Ward chapel, and bur- ial was made in the Cedar City cemetery. |
