Show Take Your Cue From C S U Opportunities in Agriculture For Agricultural College Graduates "If you had all of the money in one bunch that four years in college would cost, why would you need a college education?" To this New Ilampshireman's "puzzler," recorded re-corded by the late Fred Lewis Pattie, youths today might, with some reason, add "and of all things, why study agriculture!" ag-riculture!" We Americans have learned by experience that "An army travels on its stomach," and need for military might does not seem to be diminishing. We also are beginning to accept the idea that "A civilization civiliza-tion lasts only as long as its food supply." Because food is so necessary, nec-essary, peisons trained in the technical phases of agriculture will continue to be indispensihle. Appreciation of the importance of "know-how" in food produc- tion, processing and distribution I has set off a movement from coast to coast to arouse the in-iterest in-iterest of high school students in special training in agricalture. The initial phase of this movement move-ment is the preparation of a brochure bro-chure entitled "Opportunities in Agriculture for Agricultural College Col-lege Graduates." This highly illustrated il-lustrated and informative booklet book-let will be made available throughout the country later in the year to anyone interested. Opportunities for Specialists Opportunities for well paid service ser-vice in agriculture and associated fields are multiplying. This is particularly true for persons having hav-ing college training along specialized spe-cialized lines. Many new openings open-ings have resulted from adoption of mechanized farming, increased use of milled feeds, farm chemicals chemi-cals and commercial fertilizers; release of improved varieties of seed and other plant materials; rising interest in more productive produc-tive livestock and poultry, and growing demand for satisfying and comfortable rural living. Students now in high school should bo made aware of this "revolution" in agriculture so that they may prepare to have important parts in it if they are capable and so desire. In opening open-ing a campaign to inform young people of the career opportunities opportuni-ties obtainable through agricultural agricul-tural college education, a brochure, bro-chure, nation-wide in scope, entitled en-titled "Opportunities in Agriculture Agricul-ture for Agricultural College graduates" has been outlined by a committee of deans authorized author-ized by the Association of Land-Grant Land-Grant Colleges and Universities. |
