Show Councilman Tells j Of City's Plan For Street Oiling In answer to many inquiries as to what is being done, and what is going to be done in regards re-gards to the oiling of Cedar City streets the members of the City Council make the following explanation. ex-planation. Speaking for the Council members, mem-bers, Councilman Gail Seegmil-!er. Seegmil-!er. in charge of streets and sidewalks, side-walks, points out that tha council coun-cil together with all the citizens of the community realize the absolute ab-solute necessity of a street oiling oil-ing program. Conscious of this need, the Council early in 1950 formulated a plan for oiling ALL the streets in the city. It was the council's intention, Mr. Seegmiller says, to complete this program In 1950 and every (flort was made to get the oiling underway. However, there was a lack of finances. An attempt was made to raise the money without with-out interfering with the very urg-(nt urg-(nt water development program which the Council members feel has the No. 1 priority. Because of the fact that the oiling program was not provided for In the 1050 budget, the city was unable to borrow the necessary money. This resulted in the shelving of the project until the needed finance fin-ance can be secured. However, the plan is still Intact. Mr. Seegmiller Seeg-miller states, and will be rushed to completion as soon as the money Is made available. It Is estimated that the cost of tilling all the streets would be In excess of $r3.000.00. Seegmiller also points out that Ctdar City has some good oiled streets which have cost the taxpayers tax-payers thousands of dollars to build. Some of these streets, he says, had begon to deteriorate to Fiich an extent that they could net hold uplhrough another winter. win-ter. Therefore, the councilmen felt that the wise thing to do at the present time was to protect those streets already oiled. The Councilmen ask for the support and cooeratlon of all citizens In helping to carry out the program outlined. |
