Show Local Guardsmen Entrain to Fort Lewis, Wash. Bringing memories to many of the year 1910, wives, children, parents, relatives and friends lined Main street Tuesday even-irig even-irig to see the men of the Cedar City National Guard battery march from the Armory to the railroad depot. No bands were playing and there was no wild cheering, but rather, the steady tramp of the marching men and the realization realiza-tion by those who watched that this was the second time fn ten cars that the local Guardsmen were being called by their couti-tiy. couti-tiy. Over 100 strong, the local men marched into the depot where elready men from the St. George and Beaver batteries had assembled. assem-bled. When the men were finally put at ease, the throng of people vhich had watched the marchers, march-ers, flooded onto the depot platform plat-form to bid their loved ones toodbye. About one hour later, shortly after 9 p. m., the troop train pulled pull-ed out on its way to Fort Lewis: Washington, where the 213th Aimored Field Artillery battalion will be stationed. The equipment of the battalion batta-lion preceded the men to Fort Lewis and was shipped by rail last week. A few of the local Guardsmen traveled by car tc Washington, but the majority vere in the group which boarded board-ed the train Tuesday. |
