Show Utah Will Register 30,000 Draft Officials Announce Col. Oscar W. Cray, assistant state director of Selective Service said that approximately 30,000 Utahns of the 18 through 25 age group will register for the draft starting August 3L At the present time, the most pressing problem In relation to the second peace-time draft In the nation's history Is securing reliable officials to volunteer for work with draft boards. Officials are anxious to line-up former draft workers, thus taking advantage ad-vantage of the valuable experience exper-ience the former will have. A minimum of one draft board in every county will be established, estab-lished, with two or three boards on the docket for the more populous pop-ulous counties. The largest group available for service will be those between the ages of 18 and 20. These men missed the last draft Those older than 20 probably were registered during World War II and either saw service or were deferred for reasons, In most cases, which still will keep them from service. The large number of Utah volunteers vol-unteers now in the service will mean that the state will have, at least for the first few month, a small quota to fill, Col. Gray concluded. |
