Show T-rrr jj-rrrrrrrrrrrr ------- I PUBLIC FORUM By Our Readers DO YOU KNOW WHAT COURTESY MEANS? w ft ft EDITOR RECORD: In this rushing work a day world there seems to be a woeful woe-ful lack of common courtesy. How little does the average citizen cit-izen realize how many hundreds of thousands of calls are made on telephones, and if the operator oper-ator does not answer immediately immedi-ately there is a gross demand for service; little realizing how many other urgent calls are being made. It's just as easy to say "Kindly try Om-72 Please" and what a difference it makes in the mind of the operator. If some of those who are in such a hurry in calling would Just step Into the exchange office and watch the girls at the switchboard switch-board for five minutes they would realize just what It is like. One of the great eastern manufacturers man-ufacturers has above his desk this caption: "Keep Smiling Til. Ten o'clock and the rest of the day will take care of itself." It costs so little to meet people with a smile and how much better impression we leave than if we carry a grouch continually. A pleasant hello or a cheerful good morning goes a long way toward a congenial feeling with our fellowmen. Madelaine Bridges says: "Give to the world the best you have and the best will come back to you." Just note how you are met at the door of the theater and note the genial, pleasant greeting you get from those who have long since learned the meaning of courtesy. It pays big dividends and one loses nothing by being courteous. Just notice for a day the faces of some who carry a grouch and see if they have many warm friends. DAN E. MATHESON. |
