Show Lions Hear Talks On Iron Mines; Summer Sessions Graham MacDonald, superintendent superin-tendent of the Columbia Iron Mining Co. at Iron Mountain, was the main speaker at the regular reg-ular Monday noon luncheon meeting of the Cedar Lions club in El Kscalante hotel. Mr. MacDonald, a member of the club, spoke on the phases of his company's operations west of Cedar City. Dr. J. C. Carlisle, professor of education and director of the summer session at the Utah Slate Agricultural colleg also addressed ad-dressed the club, giving the four main purposes of summer schools. These reasons were: to give in-service training to teachers; to concentrate the GI studv pro gram; to more adequately make use of school facilities during the inactive summer months, and to enable all students to speed up their college work if they so desire. Joseph Fakler, president of the club, made the official presentation presen-tation award to the club for the winning of the State Quartet contest during the state convention conven-tion here a week ago. This same quartet won the state title last year, and went on to win International Inter-national honors in New York City. During the meeting, vocal solos were given by Miss Norma Edwards, Ed-wards, who was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Nora White. |
