Show Ford Foundation Sponsors New Type Scholarship A new type of scholarship for high school students planning to enter college is being sponsored this year by the Ford Foundation Founda-tion and 40 will be awarded in Utah this year, according to Ian-thus Ian-thus Wright, superintendent of Iron county schools. The scholarships which pay for books, tuition fees, and room and board for two years will be good at any college in Utah, are valued val-ued at $750 and up. These Ford Foundation scholarships schol-arships are an experiment in taking students of the the 11th grade and sending them right on into college, without taking the last year of work at high school. Students eligible for the scholarships schol-arships must have completed their 11th year in school, should be in the upper 10 per cent of their class, and must not be more than 17 on Sept 1, 1951. Selection Selec-tion of students will be made by examination. For this purpose, Dr. George A. Pierson, dean of students and head of the department of educational edu-cational phychology at the University Uni-versity of Utah, will be in Cedar City on Saturday. July 14 in the little theatre of the high school beginning at 9 a. m. All interested in-terested students are to contact him at that time. |
