Show New Rules Affect Administrators of Farm Programs As the time approaches for the annual election of farmer-corn-mitteemen who administer many Federal farm programs in Iron County, the county office of the Production and Marketing Administration Ad-ministration announced this week that new regulations of the Department of Agriculture will affect somewhat the procedure for selection of committeemen. "The established pattern whereby farmers participating In PMA programs in each agricultural agricul-tural community elect a community com-munity PMA committee and a delegate to a county convention which selects the county PMA committee is not changed", Carl T. Cox, present county committee chairman points out. The new regulation provides, however, that (1) a member of the county committee may not be elected a delegate to the county coun-ty convention in his own county, and (2) a delegate to the county convention may not be elected to membership on the county PMA committee. "Since delegates to the county convention will have no personal Interest in the Jobs to be filled, we believe that they will be able to approach the task of selecting se-lecting committeemen in a much more objective manner", says Mr. Cox. "The farmer-committee system should be strengthened by this action." The voting eligibility requirements require-ments have been liberalized somewhat to Include those farmers farm-ers who are, in effect, participating participat-ing In the Agricultural Conservation Conser-vation Program but because of their rotation practices or other planned feature of their farm-conservation farm-conservation program, will not, during the current calendar year, receive a payment or grant of aid. To be eligible, however, such farmers must have received a payment or grant of aid under ACP during one of the preceding three calendar years, or qualify under one of the PMA administration adminis-tration programs during the current cur-rent calendar year. |
