Show Commissioners Plan County Tire Protection At a meeting of the County Commissioners held Monday, October Oc-tober 10, a committee from Par-owan Par-owan met with the group to dis-cuss dis-cuss the problem of County fire protection. Mayor E. Ray Lyman, E. J. King and Ivan Decker, representing represent-ing the Parowan Chamber of Commerce, and Eric Burchert, jepresenting the Junior Chamber of Commerce, met and explained that a project is now underway to purchase an up-to-date fire engine and other equipment. They asked that the County cooperate co-operate with them in the project, pro-ject, with the understanding that the equipment be made available availa-ble to fight fires outside of the incorporated limits of Parowan city. The clerk was instructed by the Commissioners to write the Board of Fire Underwriters of the Pacific Pa-cific Coast, and ask that board when it can have a representa-tive representa-tive meet with the Commissioners, Commission-ers, city officials of the incorporated incorp-orated cities of the county, and other interested groups to discuss the matter and to formulate a plan to properly protect the entire en-tire county. In another action, Paul Martin, Lane Austin, W. E. Thompson, .A. V. Piper and Bruno Biasi, representing rep-resenting the people of the Beryl area met with the Commission-rs Commission-rs and advised them the there was still an' unpaid balance of "5575 on the project to control the flood waters of Shoal Creek. The Commissioners appropriated 5200 to help the project. They also advised the committee to contact the State Road Commis-sion, Commis-sion, which initiated the project, and Weyl-Zuckerman Company, 'who were benefitted more than anyone else, to make up the remaining re-maining unpaid balance. This same committee asked that a stretch or road running cast from the Austin Moyle corner cor-ner to the Wells school house be graveled. The Road Supervisor told the group that the road equipment was now ready to gra-vel gra-vel this road at once. The County Commissioners also authorized a lease on a strip of ground, 20 by 15 feet at the Beryl Railroad station for the consideration of $1.00 to the Utah-Idaho Sugar Co. The land was needed in connection with the company's packing and loading load-ing sheds at Beryl. The Commissioners Commis-sioners also approved the graveling grav-eling of a short stretch of road near the loading docks. The County Clerk was Instructed Instruct-ed to advertise a hearing on a proposed increase in the 1949 County budget to permit an appropriation ap-propriation of $800 from the County General Fund. This will be used to help finance a full time employee on the Cedar City Ci-ty fire department until the end of the current year. The hearing on the proposal has been set for Monday, November 4, at 10 a. m. |
