Show Advancement Noted At Enterprise In Soil Conservation A marked advancement in the field of soil and water conservation conserva-tion practices has been shown during the past year in the Enterprise En-terprise Soil Conservation district. This was made known at a recent re-cent meeting of the newly elect-ed elect-ed board of supervisors for the district. This board consists of Arthur P. Jones, chairman; Heber Truman, Tru-man, Ivan Barlow, Norvel Bracken Brack-en and Woodruff Holt, all of En- terprise. The Soil Conservation Service now has an office in Enterprise, ' with a full-time technician there. This office has facilitated more coordinated relations and much 1 clearer views of the problems involving in-volving soil conservation and a clearer view of the ultimate solution solu-tion to these problems. According to the conservation service, there has been a definite defin-ite realization of the value of reseedinc privatelv owned ranee- land. A total of 145 acres of this rangeland has been seeded in j the Enterprise area to some of the newer species of wheatgrass, I and those which were seeded ear-1 ly enough in the fall, showed' very good prospects for next year's forage production. Efficient use of Irrigation water wa-ter has become a very familiar i topic for discussion in Enter-' prise these days, state the conservation con-servation men. Through the efforts ef-forts of conservation-minded individuals, in-dividuals, land leveling has become be-come a much discussed practice.. Some 366 acres of farmland have been leveled in the district and much more is planned for the coming summer. The construction construc-tion of overnight storage ponds and irrigation structures as well as the employing of measuring devices will result in more returns re-turns from the land with the application ap-plication of less water. Emphasis has been placed upon up-on the use of green manure crops and upon the feeding of livestock on the farm. These practices are recommended by the Soil Conservation technician in order to increase the amount of the much-needed organic mat-,ter mat-,ter content of the soil. This soil has been deficient in this respect re-spect for some time and the addition ad-dition of organic matter will not only increase the water holding capacity of the soil, but will in crease the value of the commercial commer-cial fertilizer applied through making it more readily available i for plant use. |
