Show Truck Collision Claims One; Injures Another A collision between two giant Euclid ore trucks resulted in the death of one driver and critical injury to another Tuesday, at 9:30 a. m. inside of an iron ore pit being excavated by Utah Construction Con-struction Co. at Desert Mound, 10 miles west of Cedar City. Killed was Leonard Dalton, 27, of Parowan. Critically injured was Pat Peterson, Pet-erson, 21, Ogden. inc UU1HMUI1 UUUlcu valine Dalton was driving a loaded truck out of the pit weighlug approximately ap-proximately 40 tons, and Peterson was returning to the pit with an empty truck weighing about 20 tons. Dalton wjft pinned in the cab of his truck which struck the rear end of the returning truck. The crash occurred about 500 feet from the bottom of the pit on a dirt ramp leading out. A steering wheel and part of the cab had to be cut away in order to remove Dalton from the wreck. Following graduation from Parowan high school, where he was active in athletics, he served with the Eighth Air Force during the war. He was married to Greta Dav-enport Dav-enport in Parowan on July 14, 1945. Survivors are his widow; a daughter, Mary Ann, 3; and his mother, all of Parowan; four bro thers, Ronald and Karl Dalton, Parowan; Elmer Dalton, Cedar City, and Sherman Dalton, Og-den; Og-den; three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Ashdown and Mrs. Delia Wade, both of Cedar City, and Mrs. Irene Lindeland, Springfield, Ore. |
