Show Bus Parking Creates Problem Increased travel by bus has created crea-ted a new parking problem on Main street, which will occupy the time of the City Council at its next regular meeting, according to City officials. 1 With both the Burlington and Union Pacific bus lines using the Leigh Hotel as a depot, and witn increased travel resulting In at least two busses on each schedub and some times as high as four. a parking congestion occurs several sever-al times a day. Besides the increase in the number num-ber of bu-'ses, there is more regular parking on the street now than there has been for some time, with the result that there Is seldom any parking space left for the busses when they arrive. This necessitates double parking, and with two or three large basses double parked a traffic hazard occurs. All schedules sched-ules allow for a luncheon stop here, with the result that the busses are parked about thirty minutes at a time. In order to relieve the situation the Council has two plans under consideration. One would be to have the companies arrange a parking lot on the area between the Petty Garage and the Superior Cleaners shop, only a few doors from the bus depot. The busses could enter the lot from the alley way recently opened up through the block, thus eliminating any traffic congestion. The other uoulri hi In rixtprv on area In front of the bus depot, allowing allow-ing only bus parking there. However, How-ever, this would necessitate a closing clos-ing of a considerable area to parking park-ing In order to make room for parallel par-allel parking of three or four busses. bus-ses. Tins probably would .solve the bus parking problem but would probably create a greater parking congestion on the street, since It would take away considerable paiklng space from private cor owners. |
