Show High School Team Meets Richfield In Last Chance Battle Still doing things the hard way I and detai mined not to let any olj Istacle keep them out of the State Tournament, Coach Monte Bailey's Cedar High School Redmen will meet the Richfield High School basketball team Saturday night, in one last, desperate bid for a tour-' ney berth. Supporters of the team, who know-how well the Redmen' play when faced with a "last chance" of "must" game, feel con-f con-f Indent the Redmen will be In the t state Joust for the second consecutive consecu-tive year. j The playoff game against Richfield Rich-field will be staged In the Monroe gymnasium at 8:00 p. m. Saturday.l It was originally scheduled for Richfielfl, but when the Richfield high school team won the right to' meet Cedar, the game was shifted J to Monroe In order that it could be played on at least a seml-neu-' , tral floor. J The Redmen were forced Into the tie-off game by dropping the final game In the Region Six tourna- 'ment at Fillmore Saturday. Bailey's team K'as defeated by Dfclta In the championship game by a score I of 30 to 25 , after looking like champs In winning from Fillmore 37 to 32 the night before. The Redmen played a bang up floor game against Delta, but lost the game because of their lnabll- ity to find the hoop. Time after time they broke away for lay-In I shots, but they Just could not score! consistently, while the fighting Del- U Rabbits capitalized on their chances and made a much betu: percentage of their shot While the Cedar players could not hit the hoop from the floor they did very well from the foul line, getting nine points in fourteen four-teen tries. However, Delta got 27 (free shot, and while they onlyj made 14 of them, lt was sufficient to give them the game, as each team scored eight ield goals. Cedar had an 8 to 3 advantage In the first quarter, but let the Rabbits tie the score at 11 all In the second period. per-iod. Cedar lead at the end of each period, per-iod, 13-0, 20-15, 33-28 and 37-32. Although the Cedar players were not as good at the foul line Friday Fri-day as they were Saturday, getting only five points In twelve tries, they were definitely better on field goals, hitting the hoop from all angles and counting sixteen field baskets. Again their opponents got many more foul tries than Cedar, twenty-two. which netted ten points. Only one member of the Fillmore team could do anything against Cedar's defense, R. Warner, guard, and he did plenty, getting seven of his teams eleven field goals, and scoring seven out of thirteen foul shots for a total of twenty-one points. Warner, lg 0 2 11 Totala It 22 10 32 The Kanab Cowboys, Dixie division div-ision champions, and generally ex pected to be the strongest team In the tournament, had a bad night Friday, their only bad night of the entire sea?on and were eliminated by Delta in a hectic battle that went Into an extra period before the Rabbits won 42 to 39. The two teams were given a total to-tal of 66 foul shots, Kanab 34 and Delta 32. but the Cowboys converted convert-ed only 13 while Delta got 16. for a three point victory. Each ternn got 13 field goals. The Kanab team had won 12 ftralght games during the reguhr season, and were crowded in only one of them, an overtime game with Cedar, but the one loss against Delta prevented the team from entering en-tering the 8Ute Tournament, Indicating In-dicating that there must be something some-thing wrong with the present procedure pro-cedure in determining tourney entrants. en-trants. The Kanab team looked as good as ever again Saturday walloping Fillmore 56 to 32 for a very Impressive Im-pressive victory. |
