Show Participates In Battle For City of Bostogne Among the local men who participated parti-cipated in the now famous battle of Bastogne was Lt. Porter Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Clark' now of Us Vegas. He is with the famous 101st. Airborne Division on the Western front. i Lt. Clark. reported In a letter to his parents recently, that one of the few pleasant Incidents of that engagemrnt was his chance meet-' ing with Harold Knell of Newcastle,1 who was with the Eleventh Armored Armor-ed Division, one of the first units to break through to the City of Btstogne. Porter reported that he and Harold met there for Just a few minutes, and that It was good to see each other although they could not have much time to visit. Before the bi.ttle of Bastogne Porter had participated In seventy days of continuous battle in Holland. Hol-land. In his letter Porter described the troubles of the fighting men at his present location, stating that they arrived in snow up to their waists, and after digging foxholes In the frozen ground, a warm wind and rain started, filling the holes with water. |
